  • Project Type: New Construction

  • Division: Commercial

  • Service: Micropiles & Rock Anchors

Located on The Broadmoor property in Colorado Springs, this new construction project is a 4000sf addition to an existing building housing the carriage museum and upscale restaurants.

In this area, loose and inconsistent soils at the ground surface lie on top of good shale bedrock, making micropile supported foundations an excellent foundation solution.

At this particular location, bedrock is 30 feet below grade. A variety of column and point loads call for 69 micropiles ranging from 3.5”-5.5” diameter and reinforcing all-thread Geo Drill bar from 32-51mm thick embedded a minimum of four feet into bedrock shale. Micropiles were drilled using the simultaneous drill and grout method.

A load test was performed on a nonproduction pile to verify a maximum service load of 82 kips (164kip ult.).
